The National Archives educates students on the importance of oral history as one of the sources of the nation's history and heritage


The National Archives organized an interactive discussion session on the importance of oral history with high school students at Al Mawakeb School - Dubai, where the participating students explained the principle on which the oral history methodology is based. As the collection and codification of novels, stories, poems, proverbs, old songs and others that were preserved only in the memory of parents and grandparents, and were not written down, oral history is concerned with documenting and preserving narratives that are transmitted orally and are related to the history of the United Arab Emirates and its moral heritage.

Ms. Shereena Al Qubaisi, Head of the Oral History Unit at the National Archives, focused during the interactive dialogue session she led on oral history on the importance of oral history by defining the personality of the narrator, the importance of listening to him, and asking precise and meaningful questions that serve the purpose of interviewing oral history, and clarifying local terminology.< br />
The participating students - who numbered nearly seventy - discussed the authentic Emirati customs and traditions, such as hospitality and its origins in Emirati society, the importance of oral history as one of the sources of knowledge and research alongside written sources, the impact of modern and advanced technology and its role in preserving oral history, and the method of verifying the validity of information. Which is narrated by the narrator. Ms. Shereena Al Qubaisi indicated that the interviews conducted by the National Archives are preserved in audio and video in its archives; Because of its importance in completing the history and heritage of the UAE, which works to preserve it for generations.
