Participants in the Professional Certificate Program in Documents and Archives Management, which is organized and sponsored by the National Archives in cooperation with the Sorbonne University - Abu Dhabi, visited the headquarters of the National Archives in a scientific field trip that comes within the framework of the practical application of the theoretical lessons that the participants receive in the courses taught at the Sorbonne University. In this professional program, they got acquainted with the latest technologies used in paper and electronic archiving systems, and on the work system in the Central Archives Department, and in the Presidential Archives, and they toured the facilities of the National Archives.



Participants in the vocational training program in the Central Archives Department were briefed on the organization of the current and intermediate archives of the National Archives, and the role of this department starting with receiving correspondence (outgoing and incoming), coding, distributing and archiving them, in addition to the mechanisms of inventory and classification, preservation and destruction, and transfer according to legal regulations and approved standards and specifications. They also learned about electronic archiving and its challenges, the best ways to digitize documents, setting priorities according to the needs of the entity, and the process of document destruction, which is carried out Referring to Federal Law No. 7 of 2008 regarding the National Archives, as amended by Federal Law No. (1) of 2014 and its executive regulations; As it is not destroyed without the approval of the concerned committee in the National Archives.



The visitors - who are employees of many government institutions - were briefed on the Presidential Archives Department in the National Archives; And the role of this section in documenting the history of the United Arab Emirates through its keenness to collect and document the march of the founding leader, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan - may God rest his soul - and the activities of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him. The Presidential Archive preserves photographs and multimedia that document important historical stages in the history of the United Arab Emirates according to the best international standards, and then makes them available to decision makers, researchers, academics and the general public.



The visit of the participants in the vocational training program in Documents and Archives Management included a tour of the National Archives, which began with the Customer Happiness Hall; Where they learned about its functions, which are summed up in receiving researchers, and facilitating the process of researching the heritage and history of the UAE and the Gulf region in historical documents and records, and then in the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Hall, which includes samples of written documents, photographs, maps, and electronic albums of leaders The UAE and its most prominent men in the modern era, and it tells the story of the establishment of the Union, the formation of the first Council of Ministers, and the selection of the flag of the Union. Participants in the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Hall of Virtual Reality watched a 3D documentary film about the past and present of the UAE, and about the National Archives and its role in preserving the memory of Al-Watan, and one of the most important stations of the visit was the Emirates Library, where they were briefed on its contents of references, sources, and information containers in both forms: paper and electronic, which are of a specialized nature concerned with the history and heritage of the Emirates. in their fields of work.



It is worth noting that this is the first batch of participants in the Professional Training Program in Documents and Archives Management, launched by the National Archives in cooperation with the Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi. The program consists of six intensive courses targeting employees of government and private institutions, to develop their professional experience in various fields such as legislation. Archives, preservation, protection, management and classification of documents, strategies, policies and procedures related to the field of archiving.



The National Archives, in its keenness to activate this professional program, stems from its importance in educating the participants on how to manage electronic documents, managing current and intermediate documents, keeping records and historical documents, qualifying them to occupy professional positions related to document and archive management, and providing them with advanced knowledge and skills that enhance their role in this field.< /p>
